Les Arcs Ski Resort in France

How To Get To Les Arcs

You can travel to Les Arcs  by air to either Lyon, Geneva (Easyjet) or Chambery  (Flybe) from where you can either hire a car, or take bus or train to Bourg St Maurice. From the station in Bourg, you can take the funicular railway, which is covered by your ski pass if you have already purchased it on line. If not it only costs about 6 euros per person. The last train is at 7.30 in the evening but after that it is still possible to catch a transfer bus. The funicular takes you to Arc 1600 from where you can catch the free shuttle bus service to Arc 1950. These run about every 20 minutes and stop at different times depending on the time of the season.

The Eurostar goes right through to Bourg during the ski-ing season (Fridays and Saturdays only) Departing from either St Pancras or Ashford, the service takes approximately 6 hours from Calais. There is a night and day service but no sleeping facilities are available as yet. Leaving at 9.00pm on Friday, it is possible to be in Bourg by 06.30 am on Saturday so you can get a full 8 days ski-ing, departing at about 10.00 pm the following Saturday.  It is an expensive, but very efficient service.

Take either the Eurotunnel or the ferry to Calais and follow the Autoroute to Albertville. From there it is mainly dual carriageway to Bourg. The road up the mountain is very steep and winding in places and you do have to have snow chains with you although it is unlikely you will need them as they keep it very clear. It is approximately 29 k from Bourg to Arc 1950 and takes about half an hour to drive. The whole journey from Calais takes about 9 hours plus stops for fuel and sustenance!
